Find Your Getaway in one of the reflections of Richmond County’s agricultural roots at Norton Farms in Rockingham. Offering a wide variety of locally grown produce, Hershey ice cream, flowers and plants, other goodies, and their signature dry seasonings, Norton Farms evidences the farming heritage and hometown feel of our community.
Owned and operated by Shawn and Crystal Norton, Norton Farms officially opened on May 15, 2020 in the former Rockingham Farm Supply building located at 304 West Greene Street in downtown Rockingham. After partnering with the former owner, Mr. Wilson, to sell mums in the fall, Wilson approached the Norton’s about buying the business. Their passions are perfectly combined, as Shawn loves to cook, Crystal loves flowers and plants, and they are both huge advocates for eating and shopping locally.
Shawn’s love for cooking and seasoning led him to create their 10 signature seasonings around three years ago. Cooking at bluegrass festivals, camping trips, and other gatherings, Shawn was often asked how he seasoned his food. Currently, the trademark blends are sold in farmers markets and stores in North and South Carolina.
Crystal’s passion for flowers and plants, especially mums, led the couple to open their business. “Since mums are seasonal, we decided to also offer fresh locally grown produce to sustain our business and also support our community.” They believe in supporting local businesses and purchase the produce and other goods from locally owned businesses and farms.
No strangers to hard-work, the Norton’s have additional careers along with running their business. Shawn and his father own a poultry litter treatment business and Crystal has been working at the 911 center in Moore County for the past seven years. They have also instilled the importance of community support and hard-work in their children, Gracie Allen, Nolan Allen, and Bridget Norton, who also work in the store.
In addition to a wide variety of fresh produce, they also sell local honey from Stewart Farms in Ellerbe, 24 flavors of Hershey ice cream, canned goods (jams, jellies, etc.), Yankee candles and wax melts, and more! During the fall season, they sell mums, gourds, hay stacks, and pumpkins.
The opening of their new business is not the only thing the couple is celebrating! The two will celebrate their wedding anniversary this month and also a cancer-free diagnosis for Crystal after a battle with breast cancer.
Visit Norton Farms any day from 10am-6pm to cool down with some Hershey ice cream, while you shop for some fresh local produce, canned goods, and other goodies. You can also follow them on Facebook at Norton Farms.

You may know us from our rich racing history that begins with The Rock, but we are much more than that. We are a community of natural riches, with pristine forests, unspoiled rivers, and fertile farmland. We are the perfect entrance to North Carolina's Central Park, and the perfect escape for people who want to experience the great outdoors. Our preserved prehistoric Indian mound and woodlands are untouched since the days of discovery. A culture of family farms is alive and well in the numerous farms, peach orchards, and the vineyard. Richmond County is a very different place from a more traditional time, where we respect the lands and waters and the friends and families we call neighbors. From the railroad history in Hamlet to the fruit stands in Ellerbe and Norman, from the game lands around Hoffman to the historic courthouse town of Rockingham, Richmond County provides an authentic experience of true southern charm.
Find your Getaway from the everyday. Children from all over the region flock to Discovery Place Kids to laugh and learn. Sportsmen retreat here to hunt the lush longleaf pine woodlands of the Sandhills, get a unique wing-shooting experience at a nationally known hunting plantation, or even compete in field trials and sporting clays. Adventures come to our scenic rivers and roads for canoeing, hiking, running and biking experiences that are second to none.
In Richmond County, we firmly believe that everyone deserves a break. We are proud to live in a place that allows us to take a vacation every day. Whether it is outdoor adventure, agritourism, culture, history, or motorsports, we have it! We invite you to be our guest, experience our warmth and see what it means when we say, find your getaway in Richmond County, NC.
